International Convention 2010

Hello Phi Theta Kappans!

Well - as always International was an exercise in contrasts...

Everyone was EXHAUSTED and EXCITED!

We were THRILLED to see old friends and SAD to say good-bye!

In typical Phi Theta Kappa fashion we were SERIOUS scholars considering important issues and we were CRAZY convention"ears" having a blast at DisneyWorld!

Please look for an update in the very near future with a list of all the awards won by the Arizona Region (members from another region came up to some of us after the Awards Gala and proclaimed at the Arizona Region "kicked a$$." -- and we did).

Also, look for information regarding the 2010 Leadership Institure: Honors in Action event being held June 4-5 at Arizona State University's Barrett Honors College.

Honors In Action Camp (AKA Leadership Camp)

Note from Helen:
My apologies to all for the lack of communication. With all the changes that we learned about at the International Convention, the program for this event needs a lot more work than usual. In addition, a location at a camp was problematic because of handicap accessibility and dates having already been booked.

We will be holding the event June 5-7 at NAU. I am in the process of negotiating the price, which will be more than the usual camp cost. However, the region will absorb the difference and, as is customary, advisors will attend without paying a registration fee.

I know that you need to get your paperwork started. I am trying to get to many of these details but, like you all, my semester is ending, and on top of that my VPAA (my immediate supervisor) was named interim president at a sister campus just last Thursday. That "small" announcement has set up an onslaught of unexpected meetings and, as a division chair, I end up going to most of them.

I am working on getting the packet online by the end of this week. However, the registration fee is firm at $80. We will most likely start at lunch or early afternoon to allow for travel on Friday, June 5. Rooms will be available on Saturday night but we may not provide a breakfast on Sunday. (I am still negotiating all of this.) You will likely have to bring sleeping bags and/or bedding and towels etc. (Just as if we were camping.) The cost presented to me is likely to be in the $120 range per person without considering the cost for advisors and regional board members so I am trying to save every possible penny.

We are working on the online registration packet.

Thank you for your patience.
